Abstract

Employee turnover intention has become a critical issue for small and medium-sized enterprises because it may disrupt operational continuity and organizational performance. This study aims to examine the effects of job stress and social support on turnover intention among employees of Pempek SMEs at the Sentral Kampung Pempek in Palembang City. A quantitative approach with a descriptive research design was employed. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to all 63 employees using a saturation sampling technique, in which the entire population was selected as research respondents to ensure comprehensive representation and eliminate sampling bias. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The findings reveal that job stress has a positive and significant effect on turnover intention, indicating that higher levels of job stress increase employees' intention to leave the organization. In contrast, social support has a negative and significant effect on turnover intention, suggesting that stronger social support reduces employees' intention to resign. These results highlight the importance of minimizing work-related stress and strengthening social support within the workplace to improve employee retention. The study provides practical implications for Pempek SMEs in developing a more supportive work environment, enhancing employee well-being, reducing turnover intention, and strengthening workforce stability to support the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of traditional culinary businesses.
