Abstract

Character education in elementary schools is currently facing increasingly complex challenges due to social changes and the decline of students’ discipline, responsibility, and social awareness. In this context, teachers’ personality competence plays an important role in the process of building students’ character through moral habituation within the school environment. This study aimed to describe the role of teachers’ personality competence in developing students’ character through role modeling, moral guidance, and the creation of a conducive learning environment in elementary schools. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and students at SDN Jatiwaras, Tasikmalaya Regency. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and thematic conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that teachers’ personality competence contributed to character building through exemplary behavior, disciplinary habituation, positive interpersonal communication, and the creation of a safe and humanistic learning atmosphere. Character formation occurred through continuous social interaction and moral habituation in everyday school life. This study contributes theoretically to qualitative-based character education studies and practically to strengthening moral culture in elementary schools.
