Abstract

On the island of Java, the consumption gap between provinces is still fairly large, suggesting that the advantages of economic expansion have not been shared equally. Consequently, a more thorough comprehension of the variables affecting household consumption is required. This study aims to analyze the influence of income, education level, and health on consumption in six provinces on the island of Java from 2017 to 2024. Using panel data regression and the Fixed Effects Model (FEM) approach. The data were sourced from the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) and comprised a total of 48 observations. The results of the simultaneous test show that all three variables collectively have a significant effect on consumption. In part, income has a positive and significant effect because increased income expands people’s purchasing power, population health has a positive and significant effect, suggesting that good health improves productivity while reducing unexpected expenses, and education level has a negative and significant effect because highly educated people tend to prioritize long-term investments over short-term consumption. These findings imply the need for policies to increase public income, expand access to healthcare services, and promote financial literacy to accelerate the equal distribution of consumption across provinces on the island of Java.
