Edukasi Prosedur Anestesi Spinal Menggunakan Media Audiovisual dalam Upaya Peningkatan Pengetahuan Pasien Pra Anestesi di Bangsal RST Wijaya Kusuma Purwokerto

Spinal anesthesia is a regional anesthesia technique widely used in surgery, particularly for the lower abdomen and lower extremities. A lack of knowledge regarding the anesthesia procedure can lead to patient unpreparedness prior to the intervention. Audiovisual education serves as an engaging and easily understood alternative for information delivery. This community service activity aimed to describe patient characteristics and knowledge levels before and after receiving audiovisual education on the spinal anesthesia procedure. The activity was conducted from May 13 to 26, 2026, at RST Wijaya Kusuma Purwokerto, involving 32 patients scheduled for elective surgery requiring spinal anesthesia. A pretest-posttest method was employed, utilizing a video lasting approximately four minutes and a 10-item true/false questionnaire. The results showed that prior to education, 24 participants (75.0%) possessed poor knowledge; however, following the education, no participants fell into the poor knowledge category, and 22 participants (68.8%) demonstrated good knowledge. The mean knowledge score increased from 59.0 to 76.8. Audiovisual education can serve as a supportive strategy to enhance patient knowledge prior to undergoing spinal anesthesia.
