Higher education institutions are increasingly expected to provide tangible solutions to social dynamics through the integration of curricula with Service-Learning (S-L) programs. This article documents the integration of a Cinematography course with the S-L concept to address the low level of environmental health literacy in Dusun Kendal, Semarang Regency. Three major environmental health issues were identified in the area: waste burning, pesticide spraying without the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the presence of flies caused by cattle sheds located close to residential areas. Using a three-day live-in method and a participatory video approach, 42 Visual Communication Design students from Satya Wacana Christian University collaborated with local residents to produce educational media. The outcomes of this program consisted of four educational videos addressing issues of waste management, fly pest control, and the use of PPE for farmers. The findings indicate that participatory video is effective as an educational instrument due to its sociocultural proximity to local audiences. In addition to benefiting the community, the program successfully transformed students’ paradigms from merely aesthetic content creators into social communicators who possess empathy and moral responsibility toward humanitarian issues.
