Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes and student activity in Social Studies subjects in class VII A of SMPN 4 Mangarabombang. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of the Jigsaw type of cooperative learning method and analyze its effect on improving student learning outcomes. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach which is implemented in two cycles with the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 32 students of class VII A. Data were collected through learning outcome tests, observation, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed an increase in the average value of learning outcomes from 68 in the pre-cycle to 76 in cycle I, and increased again to 83 in cycle II, with learning completeness reaching 87%. In addition, student activity in discussions and group collaboration also experienced a significant increase. These findings indicate that the Jigsaw method is effectively applied in Social Studies learning to improve learning outcomes as well as students' social skills. The implication of this research is the importance of implementing cooperative learning strategies in secondary schools as an innovative alternative to create more active, participatory, and meaningful learning.
