Abstract

Generation Z (born 1997–2012) has now become the largest workforce cohort massively entering the global labor market in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era. Their unique characteristics digital nativity, value orientation, and demand for flexibility present new challenges to conventional talent management practices that organizations have long relied upon. This systematic literature review aims to map effective talent management strategies for managing, developing, and retaining Generation Z in the post-pandemic era. A total of 42 articles from Google Scholar, Scopus, and EBSCO databases published between 2020 and 2025 were analyzed using the PRISMA framework. The review identified five main themes: (1) the profile and work values of Generation Z, (2) the pandemic’s impact on work expectations, (3) digital-based acquisition and recruitment strategies, (4) technology-based competency development, and (5) retention strategies through employee experience approaches. This study concludes that organizations need to adopt an adaptive, data-driven, and holistically well-being-oriented talent management approach to win the talent war in this new era. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed as guidance for academics and human resource management practitioners.
