Abstract

This research seeks to systematically review the effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) on students’ mathematical communication skills. Mathematical communication is a fundamental competency that enables students to express ideas, interpret mathematical representations, and engage in meaningful discussions. This research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA framework. Data were collected from reputable databases including SINTA, Scopus, DOAJ, and ERIC, covering publications from 2020 to 2025. A total of nine articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. The findings indicate that Problem Based Learning consistently has a positive impact on students’ mathematical communication skills. PBL promotes active participation, encourages discussion, and facilitates the presentation of mathematical ideas. Therefore, PBL can be considered an effective instructional model to enhance mathematical communication skills among junior high school students.
