Abstract

Society-Centered Design Curriculum is a curriculum development approach that focuses on the needs and problems of society as the basis of the educational process. This study aims to explain the meaning, development steps, strengths and weaknesses, as well as the implementation of the society-centered design approach in education. The research method used is qualitative research with a library research approach, namely collecting data from books, journals, scientific articles, and other written sources related to community-based curriculum development. The results of the study indicate that the society-centered design approach is able to create learning that is more contextual, active, and relevant to students’ real lives. This approach also helps develop critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and students’ social awareness through problem-based and project-based learning. In addition, the values of love, empathy, and service become important foundations in implementing this approach. However, the implementation of this approach requires teacher readiness, environmental support, and adequate facilities so that learning can run effectively. Therefore, the society-centered design approach is very important to be applied in education because it is able to shape students who are not only academically intelligent but also possess social character and are able to contribute positively to society.
