Abstract

This study is grounded in the identification of deviations in the use of Indonesian language within students’ written compositions, particularly at the morphological level in narrative texts. Morphological errors not only affect the accuracy of word formation but also influence clarity of meaning, readability, and the overall linguistic quality of the text. Therefore, an in-depth analysis is necessary to identify dominant error patterns as well as the factors contributing to their occurrence. This research is intended to analyze the forms of morphological errors found in the narrative compositions of eleventh-grade students majoring in Dance at SMK Negeri 3 Banyumas, with a specific focus on affixation and reduplication. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study include eleventh-grade Dance major students and the Indonesian language teacher. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation of students’ narrative compositions. The data analysis process was conducted through stages of identification, classification, and description of errors based on morphological categories. The findings reveal that the morphological errors identified include misuse of prefixes, suffixes, confixes, and reduplicative forms. The most prominent errors involve the incorrect attachment of the preposition di to the following word, the use of non-standard word forms, inappropriate addition or omission of affixes, the influence of spoken language in formal writing, and incorrect formation of reduplicated words in violation of established linguistic rules. These findings indicate that students’ mastery of Indonesian morphological rules still requires improvement. Accordingly, this study recommends strengthening morphology instruction in writing activities to enable students to produce narrative texts that are more accurate, coherent, and aligned with standard Indonesian language conventions.
