Abstract

Reading is one of the basic foundations in the world of education that must be possessed by students, there are 2 types of reading skills, namely beginning reading and advanced reading. In class 2A students at SD Negeri 5 Menteng Palangka Raya, their reading skills are good, but there are still students whose reading skills are classified as low. Research on the use of syllable card media to improve the reading skills of class 2A students at SD Negeri 5 Menteng Palangka Raya, aims to find out how to use syllable card media and find out whether there is an effect of syllable card media in improving reading skills and learning outcomes of class 2A students at SD Negeri 5 Menteng Palangka Raya. The method used in this study is Classroom Action Research, there are 4 stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Based on the results of the study, it was found that there was an increase in reading ability and learning outcomes of class 2A students with a total of 31 students and a KKM standard of 75. From the research conducted, researchers obtained data from the pre-PTK stage, where there were only 8 students who completed the classical score of 72.6 and the achievement was 29.6%. This result shows that there are still 19 students with scores that are still below the KKM score. After conducting the post-test cycle 1 using syllable card media, an increase in learning outcomes was found where out of 29 students, 28 students completed the classical score of 83.8 and the achievement was 95.6%. From the results of this study, there is a positive impact seen from the increase in reading ability and learning outcomes of students.
