Abstract

This study aims to examine the readiness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Malang, Indonesia, to enter international markets through the implementation of green business practices. This research employs a quantitative descriptive-comparative approach by comparing theoretical frameworks of green practices and internationalization readiness with empirical conditions observed among SMEs in Malang. The data were collected from secondary sources and survey-based responses derived from SME datasets, supported by recent scholarly literature concerning green innovation, sustainable business performance, and SME internationalization. The findings reveal that although many SMEs in Malang have adopted basic green practices such as waste reduction and environmentally friendly packaging, their readiness for internationalization remains moderate. Major barriers include limited access to green finance, insufficient environmental certifications, low technological capability, and inadequate knowledge of export regulations. The study confirms that sustainability-oriented business transformation significantly contributes to SMEs’ international readiness, consistent with the Natural Resource-Based View (NRBV) theory. These results highlight the importance of strengthening institutional support, improving environmental compliance, and enhancing technological capacity to accelerate SME global market entry.
