Adab sebagai Modal Sosial dalam Pembelajaran Islam: Telaah atas Pemikiran Ibnu Jama’ah

This study aims to reconstruct the concept of adab as social capital in Islamic learning through an analysis of the thought of Ibnu Jama’ah in his work Tazkirah as-Sāmi’ wa al-Mutakallim. The study is grounded in the growing concern over the decline of ethical values and social relations in modern education, which tends to prioritize cognitive achievements over moral development. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research, supported by hermeneutic and content analysis. The findings reveal that adab in Ibn Jama’ah’s thought constitutes a multidimensional framework encompassing ethics toward teachers, knowledge, and fellow students. From the perspective of social capital theory, adab aligns with key dimensions such as trust, norms, and networks, which facilitate constructive learning interactions. However, adab extends beyond conventional social capital by incorporating a transcendental dimension rooted in divine values. This study concludes that adab can be conceptualized as a form of transcendental social capital that enhances both moral integrity and social cohesion in Islamic education. The contribution of this research lies in bridging classical Islamic educational thought with contemporary social theory within a comprehensive conceptual framework.
