Abstract

This research explores how crucial the Indonesian public's privacy rights are protected by the Personal Data Protection Law's role in protecting personal data. The research uses a library research technique that includes gathering, reviewing, logging, and evaluating several sources that are connected to the research issue. Books, scholarly publications, prior research, and other pertinent printed and electronic materials are used to gather secondary data for the study. In addition, newspapers and online media are used to investigate incidents of personal data theft and abuse in Indonesia, particularly those related to illegal online lending platforms. Legal textbooks and scholarly publications on personal data protection are the main sources utilized in this study. According to the data, Law Number 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection is the newest regulation protecting personal data in Indonesia. The administration of personal information is governed by this statute, which also sets forth legal obligations for both governmental bodies and private businesses. Its passage establishes a legal framework for the protection of personal data, especially in the face of criminal activities like illegal online loan applications. This law shields everyone's personal information against unauthorized use and misuse that might lead to damage. Additionally, parties who break the regulations regarding the protection of personal data face administrative and criminal consequences under the Personal Data Protection Law.
